Disney Legend Bob Gurr

Here is a clip of the Bob Gurr video of the man who created almost everything on wheels at Disneyland.

X Atencio Haunted Mansion

Since the starting of Ape Pen I have had many adventures one of them in having the pleasure of meeting X and Interviewing him as well.

X Atencio who born Walsenburg in Coronado in 1920, he moved to Los Angles in the late 1930’s. When joining the Walt Disney Company X was first as an animator from 1938 until 1965 when he became an Imagineer. X helped in the design of the Disneyland’s Railroad Primeval World diorama segment, & wrote the script for both Adventure Thru Inner Space , Pirates of the Caribbean, & the Haunted Mansion.

I had the pleasure of meeting with X over the last 2 yrs and video taping him about his Disney career. My last interview was more a casual setting and just as enjoyable as the last one.

Its hard to put into words for myself on the experience I had, sitting and talking with him. We talked a bit about his life and a bit about Rolly Crump as well as Harriet Burns and so much more....

I truly enjoyed each minute just being in the presents of someone who is truly loved by so many and I so respect.

When we talked about the podcast Im starting up,(one with X :coming soon) I also mentioned how many others have been done about him and the H.M. I first had to explain what a podcast was, then I told him there are that many who just love what you did!

He was surprisingly shocked so many love the Haunted Mansion and his work.  He had no clue ~

As we finished with the Interview and podcast, we adventured outside and talked about his tombstone. After the great story we took some pictures and I packed up and headed home. I realized how blessed I was to meet with X, yet at the same time I realized how much he has forgotten in the last 2 years.~

Thank You Xavier Atencio for a day I will never forget!
